Octuba-week 1 finished!

It’s been a busy week with my faculty recital and guest artist recital occuring 2 days apart but there’s no other way I’d have it.  Already working on setting up a guest recital at UT-San Antonio which at the moment will feature works for tuba, horn, and piano.  I’m also working on a new commission by up-and-coming composer Dr. Jason Thompson who was my first student at Transylvania University in Lexington, KY.  His work for tuba & piano entitled ” I Regret…” will be premiered sometime next year.  I’ll post further details as they become finalized.  In the meantime there are still three more Octubafest events at SFA – Studio Recital I on 10/25/2011, Studio Recital II on 10/26/2011, and TubaWeen on 10/30/2011.  See you there!

In other news, my second article on “The Musical Styles and Sound Concepts of Banda Sinaloense” will appear in the Winter International Tuba-Euphonium Association Journal.

It has begun!!!

Well…the summer is officially over! Spent most of the day going through 24 student schedules to come up with a humane lesson schedule (for both student and professor!), putting the final preparations on my tenure packet, and getting some practice time on all three horns.  These first few weeks are really the only ones that feel like work because you’re putting out fires, arranging things, getting organized, and trying to drive around campus avoiding people who are attempting to drive and sight-see at the same time.  After all that is managed though, this is the coolest job in the world and I’m looking forward to a great semester.

2012 TMEA Session Acceptance

Just a small ray of sunshine in a rather bleak week….

My proposal to present a session/clinic at the 2012 Texas Music Educators Association Convention was accepted.  The session is titled: Bridging the Gap: Overcoming the Physical Obstacles of the Tuba and Euphonium.  I look forward to this great opportunity!

Visit the Texas Music Educators Association website for convention updates.

Schools Almost Here!!!!

Enjoying the last few weeks before SFA starts up for the fall 2011 semester.  Currently practicing, gigging, and working on my tenure portfolio makes for a busy month…but it’s fun!

I just submitted my second article entitled : El Tubador Part 2: Sound Concepts and Musical Styles in Banda Sinaloense to the International Tuba-Euphonium Association Journal.  It will hopefully be out in the Winter Edition.

Keeping Busy During the Summer!

Below are some of the articles and reviews that will be coming out in the next few issues of the International Tuba-Euphonium Journal. I’m really excited to get some of the material from my dissertation out there along with the new music reviews. Definitely More to come!

Work in Progress…..

Well, I’ve gotten a pretty good working model of this site.  Definitely needs to “pop” a bit more but I’ll keep working on it.  I’m traveling a bit for the next few weeks.  I’ve been in Lexington, KY for the past two weeks hanging out with Manda and working on different reviews and articles.  I’ll be in Texas for the next week and perhaps a few other trips before school starts.  I’ll try to put up some pics if anything interesting happens:)
